IF you have read Watership Down by Richard Adams...?

What the heck is this "White Blindness" the rabbits keep talking about. At first I thought it was rabies but then they say the men give it to the rabbits and it's a slow and painful way to die. There is some mention that it is possible to p it to unborn young. Any ideas?
